The FEA chapter of the University of Cincinnati made a trip to Findlay, Ohio for the FEA State Conference. Their breakout session, "Dealing With Uncomfortable Situations," was a hit for the high school students! The students first came in and introduced themselves because many of them came from different schools and had never met before. After, the students broke up into groups of four and each took turns sitting in a chair while the others wrote words above them that described them. Many of the students were nervous as they sat wondering what was being written behind them, but once they turned around to view the words the smiles that came out of each student was remarkable! Many stated, "I wish I could have this done to me each morning when I wake up!" Once each student completed this activity the students then reviewed different Facebook and twitter accounts and described what was the issue with them. One Facebook account was created with the intentions of a college student studying education making the wrong decision of posting alcoholic pictures and statuses. Another was a pretend Twitter page that included negative statues about his students and how they were "so annoying and dumb." Lastly, the class regrouped together and played "Stand on the Line," which is demonstrated in the movie "Freedom Writers." The day was an overall success and UC FEA chapter is excited for next year!
